Glendale Crews Try To Knock Down 150-Acre Brush Fire Above Brand Park
GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) — Fire crews are battling a 150-acre brush fire in the hills above Brand Park in Glendale.
The Glendale Fire Department issued a 2nd-alarm response at 12:27 p.m. for a blaze in the 1600 block of West Mountain Street, a Verdugo fire dispatcher said.
The GFD confirms they're using four water-dropping helicopters and ground crews to get the blaze under control. Burbank and Pasadena fire departments were also assisting in knocking the brusher down.
What started as a 10-acre fire grew to 25 acres by 3 p.m.
By 8 p.m., officials said the stubborn blaze had grown to 15o acres.
Authorities said nearly 200 firefighters were battling the blaze Sunday evening.
At least four hikers were airlifted out of the area, according to dispatcher reports.
No structures have been damaged and officials have not issued any evacuation orders.
Temperatures in the area are in the mid-80s with very little wind.
Glendale is one of the largest cities in Los Angeles County and has nearly 200,000 residents.
