Girl Scouts Celebrate 40th Anniversary Of The Samoa With Sweet Giveaway

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A lucky person in Burbank is the winner of a year's supply of Girl Scout cookies.

Fifteen golden tickets were hidden in boxes of Samoas during a sweet scavenger hunt in Los Angeles Saturday.

The giveaway celebrates national Girl Scout cookie weekend and the 40th anniversary of the Samoa cookie.

"It's a golden ticket and if you win you get all of these amazing things," Girl Scout Lexi Ortiz explained.

The prize for most was a month's supply of Samoas.

But Wendy Hernandez hit the jackpot: an entire year's supply of the caramel and coconut treats.

Wendy and her mother were smiling ear-to-ear as 85 boxes were wheeled their way.

"Wow, [I'm] surprised. Yeah definitely. I don't even know what to do with so many cookies but thank you!" Diana Castellanos said.

"I don't know who was more excited, the girls or the troop leaders," said Chief External Relations Officer Carol Dedrich. "Because they get just as excited as the girls so the combination of the two. the energy is explosive. It's such a fun idea."
