Girl, 3, Nearly Drowns In Irvine Spa

IRVINE (CBSLA.com)  —  A 3-year-old girl nearly drowned Saturday in a spa in Irvine, authorities said.

The girl was hospitalized after being found at the bottom of the spa at an Irvine town home in the 3300 block of Esperanza.

Officials said the girl's father was barbecuing near  a community pool about 6:30 p.m. when his daughter somehow got into the spa.

The girl did not know how to swim, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.

A bystander reportedly found the girl and pulled her out.

When the girl was found she was not breathing.

An off-duty nurse did CPR on the girl until paramedics arrived. She was transported to a nearby hospital.

Paramedics said the little girl was in serious condition and en route to the hospital she was lethargic and vomiting.

Concialdi said there were two drownings and two near drownings in Orange County the past two days.

A 53-year-old man drowned Friday in an Irvine condo complex and a 57-year-old woman drowned Friday while swimming at a hotel in Costa Mesa.

A 2-year-old boy nearly drowned at a pool in Santa Ana on Friday.
