MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A 12-year-old girl returned home safely on Sunday after being reported missing yesterday afternoon.

According to the Moreno Valley Station, deputies responded to the 26000 block of Via Xavier Lane on Saturday for a report of a missing child.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the missing child, Mercedes Hernandez, qualified as an at risk missing child due to her age.

Hernandez's parents and siblings explained to officials that she went for a walk around 2:00 p.m. and has not been seen or heard from since.

Deputies said they conducted an extensive search of the area, and reached out to nearby friends, but did not locate Hernandez.

She is described as a Hispanic female juvenile with brown hair, brown eyes, weighs 160 pounds and stands 5-foot-7 tall.

She was last seen wearing a black shirt and camouflage leggings.
