Girl, 12, Critical After Truck Goes Off Angeles Crest Highway

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Four people were hospitalized, including a 12-year-old girl in critical condition, after the truck they were in went over the side of a mountain road in Angeles National Forest.

Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say the single-vehicle crash occurred Sunday near mile marker 53 of Angeles Crest Highway.

Reserve volunteers with a sheriff's search and rescue team were conducting training exercises in the forest and quickly responded to the crash site.

Officials say the team members, including a physician, found the truck down an embankment on its side and pinned against a tree.

The girl, who initially didn't have a pulse, was airlifted to a hospital, where she was listed as critical.

The other occupants were in good condition.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
