Giavotella, Calhoun Lead Angels Past Twins, 5-4

ANAHEIM (AP) — Johnny Giavotella hit a two-run homer and Kole Calhoun added a solo shot and doubled in another run, as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Minnesota Twins 5-4 on Tuesday night.

Five Angels relievers held the Twins scoreless over the last four innings to secure the victory for Jhoulys Chacin (3-4). Huston Street pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save.

The Angels had lost seven of their last eight, and were 0-4 against the Twins (20-44).

Chacin, making his seventh start with the Angels since his May 11 trade from Atlanta, was charged with solo runs in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings.

The Angels, who ranked next-to-last in the American League in home runs, took a 3-1 lead on Giavotella's fourth of the season in the third inning off ex-Angel Ervin Santana (1-7).

Santana has lost his last five starts with an ERA of 7.71. He allowed five runs and 10 hits.

Joe Mauer, Robbie Grossman and Juan Centeno all had two hits for the Twins.
