German Shepherd Rescued From Gage Canal In Riverside

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A German shepherd had to be rescued Wednesday after getting stuck in a Riverside canal, animal control officials said.

Riverside County Animal Services was alerted just after 2 p.m. Wednesday to a dog stuck in Gage Canal, spokesman John Welsh said.

The dog was found in a section of the canal near Bradley and Grace streets, a few miles south of Highway 91. Officer Dylan Gates was able to safely retrieve the dog within moments of arriving, Welsh said.

Gage Canal is a historic waterway that runs from the Santa Ana River and through several miles of Riverside. While it is only a few feet across, its walls can be steep and sometimes get very slick, Welsh said.
