Gas Pump At Shell Station In Malibu Explodes After Car Careens Into It

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) A car crashing into a gas pump at a Shell service station in Malibu touched off a huge fire and explosion Saturday evening.

The crash was reported about 7:45 p.m.

Witnesses told deputies they saw a taxicab in the left lane of westbound PCH suddenly swerve into the right lane and clip another vehicle.

The clipped car careened into the Shell station (23387 PCH at Cross Creek Road) where it hit the pump touching off the explosion and fire. That vehicle was totaled.

The cab driver reportedly fled in his vehicle but witnesses snapped his picture.

The clerk shut the gas off.

No one was hurt.

LA County Fire Air Ops tweeted a 15-second  aerial video of the fire.
