Gas leak at USC construction site prompts evacuations

A gas leak at a construction site on the USC campus prompted evacuations for certain buildings.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, crews from the SoCal Gas company were working to repair ruptured pipeline on Downey Way between Vermont and McClintock Avenues.

There is no fire and no one was hurt. However, the area around the leak had been isolated and two buildings have been evacuated as a precaution. 

As of 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, all university operations resumed once again after LAFD deemed it safe to re-enter. The following buildings that were closed are now open:

  • Irani Hall (RRI)
  • Michelson Hall (MCB)
  • Seeley G. Mudd Building (SGM)
  • Kaprielian Hall (KAP)
  • Denney Research Center (DRB)
