Gardena Retiree Wins $1M With California Lottery Scratcher

GARDENA (CBSLA.com) — A Gardena retiree says he might splurge on a vacation to Mexico after winning $1 million with a California Lottery scratcher.

Jose Hernandez told California Lottery officials he plans to pay off his house, spoil his grandchildren and save most of the $1 million he won with a 50X The Cash Scratchers ticket – two years after winning a respectable $10,000 prize.

The retiree says he knew he had won as soon as he scratched his ticket, but asked his daughter to double-check it for him when he got home, according to lottery officials.

The winning ticket was purchased at Gardena Supermarket, 1012 West Gardena Boulevard, which will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
