Garcetti Names Terrazas As LA Fire Chief

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Mayor Eric Garcetti on Tuesday announced his appointment for the next chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Los Angeles Fire Department Assistant Chief Ralph Terrazas was chosen by Garcetti to become the department's next chief.

Terrazas, 54, will succeed former chief Brian Cummings, who stepped down in October 2013.

A 30-year LAFD veteran, Terrazas will become the city's first Latino chief and a lead a department with over 3,200 sworn personnel and nearly 300 civilian employees.

Since 2006, Los Angeles has had three chiefs move in and out of the post.
