Funeral Services To Be Held Tuesday For Ventura County Sheriff's Deputy

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — Funeral services will be held Tuesday for a Ventura County sheriff's deputy killed last week in a crash with a man suspected of drunken driving.

Deputy Eugene Kostiuchenko, 41, died Oct. 28 after the accident during a traffic stop on the northbound Ventura Freeway in Camarillo.

Authorities said the driver fled but was subsequently arrested. He was identified by authorities as Kevin Hogrefe, 25, of Camarillo. Hogrefe has since been charged.

A procession is expected to follow church services Tuesday in honor of Kostiuchenko.

Authorities said the services and the procession are expected to cause traffic delays in Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the 101 Freeway and the area around Calvary Community Church and Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kostiuchenko was an 11-year veteran of the force.
