Fundraiser Held For Family Of 4 Killed In Sylmar House Fire

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — Relatives are trying to raise funds for funeral costs after a family of four was killed during a house fire in Sylmar.

The Estrada family died early Monday when flames spread throughout their home, a metal barn-like structure in the 13700 block of Eldridge Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters found the four huddled together in a crawl space apparently trying to escape the blaze. Initial reports claim the structure, which the family was renting, was not equipped with smoke detectors. An attorney for the home's owner insisted there were smoke detectors on site.

Uriel and Maria Estrada died along with their two children, 12-year-old Isabel and 7-year-old Alejandro "Alex."

Relatives are holding a car wash Sunday, Jan. 19 at 9505 Sepulveda Boulevard, Mission Hills from 10-4 p.m.

Friends are holding a fundraiser 5-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at the Valley Wing Pit, located at 1245 San Fernando Road.

Those who wish to help can also donate directly to the Estrada Family Memorial Fund, account #9067595448, at the Wells Fargo located at 6800 Van Nuys Boulevard. For more information call Wells Fargo at (818) 782-1802.
