Fullerton Home Red-Tagged Following Magnitude-5.1 Quake

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a home in Fullerton has been red-tagged following Friday night's magnitude-5.1 earthquake.

Damage, including a long, vertical crack in the front of the home in the 2900 block of Juanita Place, was visible. That home was one of three that sustained major damage.

Juan Rodriguez, a neighbor, said the homeowners of the damaged residence were away on vacation. After sunrise, the couple's daughter was able to enter the home.

"There's a lot of damage inside. They're not going to be able to go back inside. There is glass everywhere," she told KNX 1070's Ed Mertz.

After shutting off the water main, firefighters inspected the home following the 9:09 p.m. temblor and cordoned it off.

The quake's epicenter was located one mile east of neighboring La Habra and was followed by more than two dozen aftershocks.

KCAL9's Art Barron reports that at last check, 83 residents in Fullerton were displaced due to damage caused to an apartment complex.

Al Norton, who has been a resident in Fullerton for 40 years, told Barron that the quake was the worst he's experienced since moving to the area.

"It was just a thorough shaking," Norton said, adding that he planned to inspect his home later Saturday.

Meanwhile, about five other homes about a mile away in the 1800 block of Avenida Del Norte were also damaged.
