Friends Say Couple In Deadly Bus Crash Shared A Love That Was Inspiring
REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Friends and neighbors say Allen and Lynn Shall shared a love that was inspiring.
"They were just the epitome of love," neighbor Teri Hazard said. "It's how younger people look up to them, and think that's how they want their marriage to be."
Their 42-year union tragically was shattered Wednesday when the couple was struck by a bus in Redondo Beach.
Allen died and Lynn remains critically injured.
Community members say the couple was exceptionally kind and spent much of their time giving back to the Torrance community and their synagogue.
"He helped run the Feed the Homeless program. He volunteered at the temple every week. He was just the nicest, most giving man," said Sue-Anne Silkes, who belongs to the same synagogue as the Shall's.
Allen was a longtime employee of the Torrance Parks and Recreation Department. Even after retiring, he came back and volunteered his services to the department.
"A terrible, terrible shock," congregation member Marsha Spanier said. "The nicest, sweetest people in the world."
The couple was holding hands while crossing the street at Avenue I and Catalina Avenue. They were hit by a bus making a left turn when the driver failed to see them.
Hazar said: "It's just heartbreaking that this has happened to them."
