2 Armed Motorcyclists Shoot Truck Driver On 210 Freeway In Sylmar

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — Police Thursday investigated a shooting that occurred on the westbound 210 Freeway in Sylmar.

Two motorcyclists opened fired at a white truck traveling on the freeway around 4:30 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol officers.

Gunfire struck the truck driver's arm, subsequently causing the vehicle to crash on the freeway.

Paramedics transported the man to a hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound. An update on his condition was not immediately available.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim noticed he was being followed before shots rang out.

Police said the motorcyclists fled from the scene following the incident.

A short while later, a big rig traveling on the freeway attempted to avoid the area by backing up on the freeway, but subsequently rolled off the side of the roadway.

Westbound lanes of the freeway remained closed until 6 a.m., CBS2's Stephanie Simmons reported.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
