Suspect Still At Large After Riverside Bank Robbery

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a frantic search in the Inland Empire is underway Tuesday afternoon for a suspected bank robber.

The suspect, seen in footage wearing a black mask and white hooded sweatshirt, allegedly robbed a U.S. Bank branch on Van Buren about 3 p.m.

After the robbery, authorities said the suspect fled and possibly to the nearby Woodcrest Christian School, prompting the lockdown of the school.

"They stopped the basketball game and they told everyone to get in the bleachers and me and my friends, we just huddled up in a corner," a student said.

Four other schools in the area were also placed on lockdown as a precaution.

"We want to be very careful, especially with a school campus. They're very large, expansive. We don't want a suspect to potentially mix in with the students on campus," Riverside Police Department Lt. Christian Dinco said.

Inside the bank, gloved crime scene investigators dusted for fingerprints, and a sign was posted on the window explaining that it was closed due to an emergency.

Classes are expected to resume as scheduled Wednesday.
