Former Irwindale Police Officer Pleads No Contest To Sexual Assault Charges
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A former Irwindale police officer who sexually assaulted a woman he pulled over in a traffic stop pleaded no contest Friday to a pair of charges.
David Paul Fraijo, 36, faces up to nine years in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 12.
Fraijo pleaded no contest to one count each of oral copulation under color of authority and sexual battery by restraint.
He stopped a female driver on Oct. 20, 2012, and asked to see her driver's license, Deputy District Attorney Rosa Alarcon said. Fraijo then sexually assaulted the woman in a parking lot, she said.
The former officer pleaded not guilty in March 2014. It was unclear why he chose to change his plea but in March he was also facing charges of kidnapping to commit another crime, forcible oral copulation and assault under control of authority.
If he had been found guilty of all five charges, Fraijo faced a life sentence in state prison.
