Fontana Carjacking, Pursuit Suspect To Make First Court Appearance

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — A 23-year-old man will face a judge Tuesday on charges of carjacking and fleeing police in connection with a pursuit over the weekend.

Marcelino Castro, 23, is being held on $250,000 bail after being booked Saturday on suspicion of carjacking and parole violations, according to San Bernardino sheriff's jail records.

Police say officers responded to a report of a 68-year-old man being pulled from his vehicle at about 6:22 p.m. Saturday in the 16700 block of Valley Boulevard. The suspect, whom police identified as Castro, drove away in the vehicle and was later located at Sierra and Valley, officials said.

Officers began pursuing the vehicle on Interstate 10, and the chase ended at 9th and Vineyard avenues in Rancho Cucamonga when the suspect lost control of the car.

Castro, who police say fled on foot and was found nearby, was also found to have a warrant for a parole violation.

The victim was not injured.
