Flower Shortage Drives Up Costs This Mother's Day
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) - At the California Flower Market in downtown LA, crowds of customers buying bouquet's for Mother's Day faced higher prices because of bad weather in South America, leading to a shortage of imported flowers.
"The struggle has been throughout months," Gersain Bustos, owner of Growers Direct Flowers, told CBSLA's Joy Benedict, "but we managed to get them from different countries, different regions."
Bustos also said his business is suffering from the pandemic and he's working with fewer employees, forcing him to keep things simple.
"Seventy-five % of our clientele here is do-it-yourself. You can get it by the bucket, by the bunch. If you have a vase, bring it," he said.
