Mandatory Evacuation Orders Lifted In Camarillo Springs

CAMARILLO SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — Mandatory evacuation orders were lifted Tuesday in one mudslide-prone area of Ventura County after a day of heavy downpour.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department lifted the mandatory evacuation order for Camarillo Springs south of the 101 Freeway about 6 p.m.

Despite the order being lifted, a number of residents opted not to return home due to mud in their back yards.

"It looks like it's going to rain again tomorrow, so instead of going through the drama, we're at the hotel down the road," Dyane Garrick, a Camarillo resident, told KCAL9's Serene Branson.

Robbie Dornick, another evacuee, said: "I used to love the rain and the mountains have always been my sanctuary but for right now, it's kind of a worry."

About 120 homes along San Como Lane, Gitana Avenue and Itamo Street near the Springs Fire burn area had been under the order.

Meanwhile, officials were urging voluntary evacuations as of Tuesday evening.
