Hawaiian Flights Delayed, Canceled Due To Tropical Storm Iselle

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Tropical storm Iselle caused headaches for travelers headed to the Hawaiian Islands and made for a busy day at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

On Friday, a total of 24 flights were either canceled or delayed at LAX due to the storm, which is set to dump as much as a foot of rain.

According to CBS2's Greg Mills, nine flights to or from airports in Hawaii or LAX were cancelled, and 15 flights were delayed.

Although Iselle was downgraded overnight from a hurricane to a tropical storm, that didn't stop some from leaving the islands.

"We were due to fly back here [LAX] on Sunday. We cut our holiday in Hawaii short 'cause [the storm] was coming," Karen Healey, a traveler, told Mills. Healey and her family, along with others landed at LAX just before 3 p.m.

Danielle Martin, another traveler, said the Honolulu airport was packed with people trying to leave Hawaii before the storm hits. She too returned to LA on Friday.

Julio, a Category 3 hurricane, is expected to hit the Hawaiian Islands over the weekend or early next week.
