Flight Delays Continue Amid Major Runway Construction At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Travelers should expect flight delays to continue Wednesday morning amid major runway construction happening at Los Angeles International Airport.

On Tuesday, LAX closed one of its four runways for safety repairs, which resulted in significant delays for travelers.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the average flight delay at LAX was around 15 minutes or less on Wednesday morning.

In June, runway safety improvements were mandated by Congress for all U.S. airports.

The improvements are expected to provide an extra margin of safety for landing and departing planes.

Airport officials explained the phased closures began in March, and the runway will remain closed through the summer.

Additional runways at the airport will be repaired through June 2017.

Travelers were advised to check their departure terminal online for possible changes and airport screens upon arrival to LAX.
