Firefighters Take Down Flames At 2-Story Family Home In Walnut

WALNUT (CBSLA.com) — 2,000 feet of a 6,000 squared-foot, two-story house in Walnut was lost in a fire late Tuesday.

Two stories of the residence in the 2100 block of Lariat were on fire shortly before 7:30 p.m., with the second floor being described by firefighters as "fully involved."

All the residents were accounted for outside the home shortly after the fire began, though the home was considered a loss.

LA County Fire officials said the fire was put out by 7:45 p.m. Firefighters had arrived in force, believing someone was trapped inside the home.

The homeowner, who was not inside the home at the time the blaze began, says she believes her daughter may have lit a candle and left it unattended.

Firefighters, however, have yet to confirm a cause.

Neighbors say they saw the daughter run from the home, along with a friend.

"I asked her how it happened, and she didn't really give me a response," neighbor Sal Serpico said. "She was kind of just shaken up quite a bit."

No injuries were reported in the fire.
