Man Wounded In Police Shooting In Garden Grove

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com) — Garden Grove police say a man has been taken to a hospital after being wounded in a shooting that involved a police officer.

Police said in a written statement that an off-duty Santa Ana police officer called Garden Grove police after seeing a man carrying a semiautomatic handgun near Chapman Avenue and Jacalene Lane.

The call was received just after 4 p.m. Monday.

When a Garden Grove police officer arrived and found him, police said the man pointed a handgun at the officer and was shot.

Police said the suspect, described as an 18-year-old Hispanic man, was taken to a hospital. His condition was not known.

Police said it's not known if the man fired a shot at the officer, who was uninjured.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office has been called to investigate, police said.
