Firefighters Rescue Dog From House Fire In Riverside

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters successfully rescued a family pet that was trapped inside of a Riverside home that erupted in flames, authorities said Tuesday.

Just after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, firefighters were sent to a home located in the 4400 block of Lyon Street, according to the City of Riverside Fire Department.

Upon their arrival, crews were able to contain the flames to the garage and attic.

One firefighter located the family's dog in the master bedroom closet.

Authorities said the pet was conscious, but was extremely lethargic due to smoke inhalation.

The firefighter successfully revived the dog using a pet oxygen mask. The family later brought their pet to an animal hospital for further evaluation.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities estimate $150,000 worth of damage was done to the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
