Crews Investigate Cause Of Fire That Destroyed Baldwin Hills Landscape Design Center

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters continued their investigation Saturday into the cause of a fire that broke out in a landscape design center in Baldwin Hills last night.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, crews were sent around 7:32 p.m. Friday Inner Gardens, located in the 6000 block of West Jefferson Boulevard, for report of a structure fire.

Once on scene, firefighters quickly located flames burning through an arched roof of a 63-year-old building, covering 12,300 square-feet, which was described as a one story garden design center.

Authorities explained multiple hose lines were extended, and additional crews were brought in to tackle the flames.

Crews reported the structure's canopy began to give way, and the roof fully collapsed about 15 minutes after arriving on scene.

Several firefighters forced entry into the business, while others remained outside to protect an adjoining business, Castelli Art Framing, from catching on fire.

Crews said the framing store only received limited damage from smoke, heat, and water.

According to the LAFD, 140 firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in one hour and eight minutes.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire and property loss are still being determined.
