Firefighters Fully Contain Raging Brush Fire In Thermal

THERMAL (CBSLA.com) — A raging brush fire blackened 350 acres in Thermal on Saturday before being contained.

The fire erupted Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Avenue 66 and Pierce Street, officials said.

The blaze was initially reported to be 10 acres and burning at a moderate rate of spread but grew to 20 acres by 6 p.m. Saturday.

By 8 p.m., the fire had destroyed an outbuilding and downed power lines in the area.

A total of 122 firefighters were deployed to assist in the firefight.

The fire, which temporarily shut both directions of Highway 86 between Avenue 86 and Avenue 80, was fully contained by 11:34 p.m., according to authorities.

No injuries were reported.
