Firefighters Free Boy, 3, Who Got Stuck In Dove Canyon Pool Filtering System

DOVE CANYON (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a total of 25 firefighters responded to a home in the Dove Canyon area Saturday evening to help free a child from a pool filtering system.

Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said firefighters received a call about 5:15 p.m. of a 3-year-old boy who had his leg stuck in a pool filter.

When the first unit arrived to the 20 block of Highpoint, they realized the situation was a bit more complex as the child had slid down into a strainer mechanism at the pool's edge.

Concialdi said in a news release that crews made several attempts to lift the child from the apparatus by using dishwashing soap.

They, then, requested additional help.

Other units arrived on scene and worked to remove surrounding material that would ultimately allow a pool filter strainer to be removed.

The child was freed about 45 minutes later. He was unharmed and reunited with his parents, Concialdi added.
