Firefighters Contain Blaze In Newport Beach Home

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Crews were on the scene of a structure fire Saturday that erupted in Newport Beach.

According to the Newport Fire Department, firefighters were sent around 12:09 a.m. to a duplex located in the intersection of Clubhouse Avenue and Short Street.

Once on scene, officials located significant flames burning on the second story.

Residents had already self-evacuated from the building, however, crews aided and evacuated neighboring units.

One firefighter was transported for treatment of injuries sustained in the fire. He has since been released from the hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

Firefighters explained they were able to contain the blaze within 25 minutes.

The Red Cross offered assistance to those displaced, however, residents already made arrangements to stay with family and friends.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
