Firefighters Battle Large Blaze Engulfing Commercial Building In Boyle Heights
BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSL.com) — Firefighters on Thursday evening battled a large structure fire in Boyle Heights.
The building was described as a commercial building. Sky9's Stu Mundel said flames were visible for miles.
Within minutes of the fire being reported, around 7:45 p.m., flames were visible coming through the roof.
A black plume of smoke rose about 1,700 feet straight up into the night sky.
The one-story 700 feet by 100 feet building is at Soto and Pico, authorities said.
The type of business was described as a distribution center
The fire spread quickly.
More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze.
Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department says the building suffered a collapse.
No injuries were reported.
KCAL9's Rachel Kim reported from the scene at 10 p.m. when the fire was still visible but said firefighters were getting the upper hand on the fire.
It was too dangerous to go inside the structure so firefighters battered it from the sides and above.
Firefighters used 500-600 gallons of water every minute.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
