Firefighter, Nurse Stabbed Inside Emergency Room In Boyle Heights
BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — A firefighter and a nurse were stabbed inside the emergency room of a Boyle Heights hospital, it was reported Tuesday.
The incident unfolded just after 9:30 p.m. at White Memorial Medical Center on East Cesar E. Chavez Avenue.
Police said the suspect, who was at the hospital on a medical hold, threatened hospital staff with a knife.
"He went ballistic and he started telling them, telling them verbal words, bad words. And then, like, he just took out, I don't know what, an object and he just started stabbing," Angel Hernandez, a witness, said.
"That's when I started backing away and I left. I left because I thought he was going to attack us," Hernandez added.
Units responded and subsequently took the suspect into custody.
The LAPD also said the firefighter works with the Los Angeles Fire Department. He was transferred to another trauma center for treatment. He was described as being in "fair condition" after sustaining a stab wound to his arm.
The condition of the other victim was not known, although the injury was not believed to be serious or life-threatening.
The suspect, according to CBS2's Dave Bryan, had been brought to the hospital by paramedics after being picked up at a Greyhound bus station in downtown Los Angeles for an unknown medical condition.
