Firefighter Injured, 8 Displaced In Sylmar Condo Fire
SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — A firefighter Monday was injured and eight residents displaced following a condo complex fire in the San Fernando Valley.
The fire was reported just before 2 a.m. in the attic of a unit at 14380 Foothill Boulevard in Sylmar, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
When crews arrived on scene, firefighters found one condo of a two story, four unit complex engulfed.
"Neighbors, who were awakened by properly functioning smoke alarms, had already escaped their homes unscathed prior the Fire Department's arrival," spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
Nearly 90 firefighters were able to keep the bulk of the fire to the unit of origin, extinguishing it in 50 minutes.
One firefighter suffered a non-life threatening injury to his face and was transported to a local hospital in fair condition.
A resident also suffered a minor burn to his foot. He was treated and released on scene.
"Volunteers from the American Red Cross assisted four adults and four children displaced by the blaze with temporary living needs," Humphrey said.
A damage estimate was still being totaled. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
