Fire In Barton Flats Area Near Big Bear Burns 50 Acres

BARTON FLATS (CBSLA.com)  —  A wild fire has burned about 50 acres in the Barton Flats area, near Big Bear.

Officials have dubbed the blaze "the Lake Fire."

Sky9's Stu Mundel said the fire has a huge plume of smoke due to being fed by whole, mature trees.

The US Forest Service is working with CalFire and San Bernardino Fire to combat the blaze.

Officials said as of 8:30 p.m. Wednesday the fire was about 15 percent contained.

Some water drops will continue through the night, Mundel said.

The fire is close to campsites, Mundel reported. About 185 people have been taken to nearby Citrus High School in Redlands.
