Fire Hydrant Sheared By Hit-And-Run Gushes For Nearly 5 Hours
EL SERENO (CBSLA.com) — Water gushed for close to five hours Friday morning from a fire hydrant that was sheared off by a hit-and-run motorist in the El Sereno area.
A silver Dodge Charger struck the hydrant at about 2:30 a.m. in the area of Klamath Place and Eastern Avenue, police said.
The driver fled on foot, leaving the gray Dodge on top of the sheared hydrant, which sent up a geyser of water into the power lines until about 7 a.m., when it was finally shut off.
A crew from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was at the scene, attempting to repair the damage.
A representative from DWP could not be reached for immediate comment to determine if any homes were without water service.
