Fire Forces Closure Of 2 Lanes On Toll Road Near Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A brush fire broke out Monday alongside the San Joaquin Hills (73) toll road near Newport Beach.

The quarter-acre, wind-driven blaze was reported at 11:20 a.m. just south of the Catalina toll plaza near the Newport Beach border, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said. It was extinguished by 12:10 p.m.

The fire, which appeared to have been sparked by a transformer, was not threatening any structures, Concialdi said.

The fire forced the closure of two northbound lanes, California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada said.
