Fire Damages Historic Potato Shed In Hemet

HEMET (CBSLA.com) — Authorities investigated the cause of a fire on Tuesday that erupted in a historic potato shed in downtown Hemet.

Around 10 p.m. on Monday, firefighters were sent to an old factory building located at Oakland Avenue and State Street, according to the Hemet Fire Department.

Upon their arrival, crews located part of the structure collapsing while flames continued to burn.

City officials said a third of the building has been destroyed.

The shed has been unoccupied for years.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
