Explosion Ignites Large House Fire In La Verne, Extends To Nearby Brush

LA VERNE (CBSLA) — Fire crews worked to contain a large house fire in La Verne that ignited following a reported explosion in the home Monday evening.

Los Angeles County Fire responded to the 4500 block of Live Oak Canyon Road just before 6:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames and extended to heavy brush nearby.

The house reportedly exploded into flames before climbing up a nearby hillside, burning roughly half of an acre.

Firefighters, along with a water-dropping helicopter, were able to eventually put out the house fire as well as the brush fire, stopping the spread to other homes.

Seventeen homes on Live Oak Canyon Road were evacuated. Residents were expected to be allowed to return to their homes late Monday evening.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

No injuries were immediately reported.
