Fire Breaks Out At Atwater Village Recycling Facility

GLENDALE (CBSLA) - A two-alarm fire broke out Friday at a recycling facility in the Atwater Village area.

The fire started just after 5:30 p.m. at the plant on the 4500 block of West Doran Street, the Los Angeles Fire Department reports.

A large plume of black smoke was seen over the Glendale area and was reportedly visible from the 5 and the 134 freeways.

The address corresponds to American Reclamation Inc., described on its website as "a family-owned waste collection and recycling company that has been operating for over 50 years."

Nearly 80 firefighters battled the blaze using hose streams to "surround and drown" the flames, Nicholas Prange of the LAFD said.

Crews worked to contain flames for more than 90 minutes after the blaze was reported.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or structures threatened but crews would likely be involved in an extended operation, Prange said.
