Fire Alarm Prompts Investigation Into Marijuana Grow Found In OC Building

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Detectives Friday investigated the illegal activity surrounding a marijuana grow that was found inside a commercial building.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, firefighters were sent around 7:00 a.m. to a commercial building, located in the 1100 block of East 17th Street, to check on a fire alarm.

When crews arrived to the building, five men fled in different vehicles.

Authorities said no fire was located at the building.

A preliminary investigation revealed a sophisticated marijuana cultivation operation that consisted of about 1,600 plants in different stages of growth. Cultivation equipment was also located within the building.

Police were called to the scene to assist in the investigation into the illegal activity.

No arrests were made.
