Ferguson Demonstrators Briefly Shut 110 Freeway After Night Of Peaceful Protests In L.A.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A large group of protesters briefly shut a major thoroughfare in downtown Los Angeles late Monday evening following a grand jury's decision not to indict a Ferguson police officer in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old teenager.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., aerial footage above the freeway showed the large group of protesters blocking traffic on the 110 Freeway near the L.A. Convention Center.

According to authorities, the California Highway Patrol had asked the crowd to disperse but they failed to do so.

As of 12:30 a.m., both sides of the freeway had reopened.

The mostly peaceful demonstrations locally were sparked by an announcement earlier Monday by a St. Louis County prosecutor who said jurors had decided not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in connection with the Aug. 9 fatal shooting of Michael Brown, 18.
