Female Passenger Killed, Man Injured In Athens Village Rollover Crash

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Authorities said a 47-year-old female passenger was killed and  the male driver injured in a rollover crash in Athens Village Sunday morning.

An eight-year-old boy also suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The crash -- in which the victim's car overturned -- was reported just after 6:30 a.m. at Broadway and West 135th Street.

According to the CHP, Gerson Argueta, 21, of Los Angeles was speeding east on 135th Street in his 2004 Toyota. His passengers included 47-year-old Mirian Argueta and an unnamed 8-year-old boy.

As Argueta drove through the intersection at Broadway, he apparently lost control, veered to the left, hit the curb and overturned, according to the CHP.

A source at the scene told City News Service that Argueta was allegedly speeding to get to church on time.

Mirian Argueta, who was in the right rear seat and not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the car, according to the CHP. She died at
the scene.

The driver  and the young boy were rushed to an area hospital, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.

The crash remains under investigation.
