Friends, Family Mourn Bicyclist Killed In Huntington Beach Hit-And-Run

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Orange County authorities Monday were looking for a driver who fatally struck a female bicyclist over the weekend.

The accident happened just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Utica Avenue in Huntington Beach, police said.

Witnesses said the driver of a white sedan hit the victim, later identified as 34-year-old Genevieve Hall, and "did not stop after striking the bicyclist."

Hall, a Huntington Beach resident, was found lying in the roadway by police.

She was rushed to UCI Medical Center in Orange with major injuries and later died.

Mike Reddick, Hall's longtime boyfriend and the father of their 10-year-old son, told KCAL9's Stacey Butler that the victim had just found a second job and was on her way to pick up dinner when the accident happened.

"I want my boy's mom back," Reddick said. "I lost a friend, a lover, a mom. Whoever did it…didn't even have the courtesy to stop to help her out."

Devastated friends and family members placed flowers at the crash site Monday night.

"She was super excited. She was going to buy dinner for the family because she's just been working to get some money. She said, 'Hey, I'm getting dinner, my treat,'" friend Mike Butler said.

"The thing I'll remember most is her love for her son. And how much she loved him so much. My heart just breaks for her family," friend Jennifer Mauser said.

Officials said the suspect was driving a 2006 to 2013 model white Chevrolet Impala that may have bumper damage.

Reddick, along with Hall's brother, Michael "Bubba" Hall, are begging for witnesses to come forward.

"Whether they catch him or not, she'll never be gone, so she'll always be in my heart," Michael said.

A fundraiser to help pay for Hall's funeral expenses will be held at Mama's On 39 Wednesday night in Huntington Beach.

Anyone with information about the accident should call Huntington Beach Police Accident Investigator Tai Huynh at (714) 536-5670 or Accident Investigator Robert Barr at (714) 536-5666.
