ATF Agents Involved In Shooting

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Federal agents were involved in a shooting in San Bernardino Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Carousel Mall just after 7 p.m. while agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were conducting an enforcement operation.

When ATF officers tried to pull over a vehicle carrying three people, the driver sped toward them with his car and they opened fire.

Authorities said the suspect was taken to the hospital Wednesday night. His injuries were non-life-threatening, an ATF spokesperson told CBS2 in an email Thursday.

No ATF personnel were injured.

The two passengers in the car who were not injured. They were detained and questioned. No names have been released.

San Bernardino police responded and are helping in the investigation.

The ATF operation was part of a larger Southland enforcement operation addressing firearms violence.
