FDA Announces Recall Of Sammy's Milk Baby Food Over Possible Presence Of Bacteria

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced the recall of Sammy's Milk Baby Food over concerns it contains a potentially deadly bacteria.

The baby food is sold in Mother's Markets retailers, as well as online, and was distributed in California.

The product was being recalled by Graceleigh, Inc. due to the possible presence of a bacteria known as Cronobacter, which the FDA says can cause "severe and sometimes fatal blood infections or meningitis in infants."

The product also may not provide adequate nutritional levels of iron, the agency said in a news release.

The product comes in 12.84-ounce white plastic containers, authorities said, adding that it contains expiration dates of Nov. 2016 through Aug. 2018.

So far, no illnesses have been reported to date.
