Father Charged In Fatal Stabbing Of 6-Year-Old Son

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A South L.A. father accused of fatally stabbing his 6-year-old son made his first court appearance Monday.

Alejandro Sanchez, 38, was arrested Thursday in the 1600 block of 88th Street, in Florence, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said.

Sanchez was charged with felony murder and assault resulting in the death of a child in the stabbing of the first grader, Nathan Sanchez.

His arraignment was continued to Oct. 8.

Deputies found the boy suffering from wounds in the family's trailer. Authorities tried to administer CPR and transported the boy to local hospital where he later died.

Neighbors said Sanchez had a history of drug and alcohol abuse and that the child showed signs of abuse.

The Sheriff's Department confirmed they have no records indicating deputies had been called to investigate Sanchez for mistreating his son. A spokesperson did confirm Sanchez had been arrested three prior times following reports of domestic violence, each involving a member of his family other than the boy.

Sanchez was being held on $1.02 million bail at the Men's Central Jail.
