Family Of Young Man Accidentally Killed By WeHo Deputies Is Filing Suit

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — The family of an aspiring TV producer mistakenly shot and killed by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies is suing the department.

John Winkler, 30, died April 7 in West Hollywood as deputies pursued a suspect at an apartment complex.

He was one of three men held hostage by a man, a mutual friend, who was armed with a knife.

Winkler's family says the only way to find out what really happened that night is through the courts.

The LACSD has not yet commented on the filing.
