Family Of Fallen Bakersfield Officer Killed In Line Of Duty Express Profound Grief
GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) — The family of a Bakersfield police officer killed in the line of duty expressed their profound grief on Saturday.
David Nelson, a Burbank native, died Friday morning when his patrol car slammed into a wall and light pole before catching fire during a pursuit.
His family issued a statement that said in part:
"Our family is deeply saddened by this loss and words cannot begin to express the grief his passing has placed on all of our hearts."
They also said they're touched by the outpouring of support they've received.

Nelson, who was 26, graduated from Burbank High School and Occidental College.
He went on to work for the Burbank Police Department before joining the Bakersfield Police Department.
Nelson was described by family members and friends as a great man, who was respected and loved by many.
His family said the viewing and funeral service will be held at Forest Lawn Glendale. A viewing and a vigil are scheduled for next Tuesday, while the funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on July 1 at the Church of the Recessional.
