Family Mourns Loss Of 34-Year-Old Whose Body Was Found In Rancho Cucamonga Park

RANCHO CUCAMONGA (CBSLA.com) — The family of a 34-year-old man whose body was found in an open field in a Rancho Cucamonga park a week ago is doing their part to find his killer.

Mark Riveral's body was found by a passerby near the 210 Freeway and Milliken at 6:30 a.m. last Thursday, San Bernardino County Sheriff's investigators.

"He did not deserve to leave from this world the way he did," Ed Riveral, the victim's father, said.

Riveral's mother says the family's nightmare began last Wednesday night when her son went to the store but never came home.

"He was supposed to come home that night. He left his food out there and now he's gone forever. I'll never get to hug my son," she said.

Detectives say Riveral had injuries to his torso.

"Due to the investigation and to protect it, we are not going to go into details of what the trauma was," Sgt. John Gaffney, of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, said.

Investigators say Riveral left in his car for a store near his house after 10 p.m. last Wednesday. His car was found near the scene of the crime. It's not clear whether Riveral ever made it to his destination.

His parents can't comprehend how anyone could target their son.

"Always caring. Very generous. He took the physical body of my son, but my son continues to live spiritually," his mother added.

Detectives aren't disclosing whether this was a robbery or if a weapon was found.
