Family Chases Down Man After Child Is Taken From Newhall Bedroom

NEWHALL (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man was arrested Thursday night after a 3-year-old girl in Newhall was taken from a bedroom.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a written statement that the man was apprehended by deputies, who responded to the 24200 block of Arch Street after receiving a call of a possible kidnapping.

"A male adult allegedly grabbed ahold of a 3-year-old female by reaching through a bedroom window at the female's residence," deputies said in the statement.

Family members chased the man and got back the girl, who was unharmed, according to deputies.

When authorities arrived, they had to chase the man down the street but were able to detain and arrest him.

Investigators said there is no relation between the man and the child.

Meanwhile, the child's aunt told Rachel Kim the man had told her brother-in-law he was trying to return the child.

"We didn't think this would ever happen to her or us," she said.

The man identity has not been released.

Authorities said the incident remains under investigation and asked that those with more information call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station at (661) 255-1121.
